This special issue focus on the role of local actors - communities, firms, local agencies, etc. - for a long-term development strategy in rural and inner areas. In particular, the special issue aims to publish contributions that improve and extend the empirical evidence and stimulate the debate on the drivers of long-term development in rural and inner areas. The contributions should focus on regional and spatial heterogeneity in the research questions under explored.
