The journal, founded in 1977, is an updated and comprehensive guide to analyze and understand the socio-cultural changes and the institutional transformations of the dynamic field of social policies at a national, regional and local level and in the wider European framework. Its main purpose is to observe the shifting relations between institutions and citizens, universalism and selectivity, public and private, guarantees and freedom of choice. It pays special attention to issues such as efficiency, evaluation, quality, privacy, public communication and information technologies, as well as the emerging non profit actors: associations, voluntary organizations, social cooperation and foundations.
It also follows the evolution of social and health needs, object of strong attention in recent years within the debate on restructuring of welfare systems.
